This week the United States, France and Britain are honoring and remembering the brave soldiers, sailors and airmen who took part in D-Day, Operation Overlord and the Battle of Normandy. Veterans, their families, world leaders and thousands of onlookers will be present to pay tribute to those who fought to liberate Europe and for those men who never came home.
My step-father who fought in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest in the Winter of 1944 took our entire family to Normandy 15 years ago for the 60th Anniversary. To see the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc and the Normandy American Cemetery in person was one of the highlights of my life. I highly recommend adding this trip to your family's bucket list. You won't regret it.
I hope you will take a few moments this week to read a news article about the events taking place in France or watch a documentary on the History Channel with your kids. It is up to all of us to honor those brave men and women who were on the front lines that historic day.
